Glass Cloches

A savvy gardener who’s familiar with indoor gardening can probably tell you all about how the glass cloche (pronounced as clawsh) was originally designed to protect plants from frost damage as any modern glass terrarium would. The word “cloche” is borrowed from French word, meaning “bell”. Among English speakers, these bell-shaped glass cloche covers are also commonly known as bell jars. Nowadays, the glass cloche dome design has found a variety of uses that go beyond the garden. Some have handles and come with glass trays or wooden trays. Depending on size and shape, glass cloche domes and the glass cloche can also be placed over plates to keep food fresh and warm, or they can be used as display covers for miscellaneous items.
